Are YOU Coachable?

This answer to this question is important. The answer to this question is one of several keys that support the personal development of people in life’s endeavours be it sports (athlete), education (student), work (employee) and life (person). Being Coachable is arguably one of the top 3 factors in one’s chances of reaching their goals in life and achieving success. Parents have a big role to play in teaching and coaching their kids about the importance of learning the characteristics shared below.

The following is a list of the common characteristics of “Coachable Athletes” not ranked necessarily in order of importance.


  • Willingness to be coached
  • Willingness to sacrifice for the team
  • Acceptance of criticism
  • Acceptance of individual role
  • Positive response to discipline
  • Attentiveness
  • Respect for authority
  • Selflessness
  • Agreeableness with coach

Once a student athlete gets ready for College or University the first thing a recruiter will ask a player’s high school coach; is he/she Coachable? You don’t get to the next level in sports, work or life without being a Coachable Team Player. It’s not just about talent!
